No matter whether you call it football or soccer, the Android platform has plenty of apps that will let you keep an eye on game scores and enjoy the matches. Most of them apply to football games around the world, so even if you’re not interested in Major League Soccer you can still keep track of what’s going on regardless of the league. The apps are not all stats and scores, either — we have a few soccer games in the list too to help you keep occupied.

MLS MatchDay

Major Leage Soccer’s official app is MLS MatchDay, and it includes the usual features like news and scores. There’s also a club favorite system and additional filters so you can pick out the information you’re keen on seeing. If you want to watch on-demand video or live streaming, you can also pay the subscription fee.

FotMob

FotMob is probably the most popular soccer score app out there, and it covers many different leagues. You can easily check out the latest news (via sources such as Goal.com and the AP), the top-scoring players, current standings, and more for teams from around the world. Perfect for following FC Barcelona even if you haven’t picked up tickets for the game (get them here) or decided to fly to Spain.

FotMob has well over 20 leagues covered, including Bundesliga, the Premier League, MLS, and La Liga, plus it brings you just about every detail you’d like — team linups, cards, goals, assists, penalties, substitutions, missed penalties, and more game statistics. (From a numbers perspective, it’s usually better than anything you’d get in the stadium or on TV.) The app also has widget support on the home screen so you can see which matches are next, and there’s an in-app upgrade to eliminate ads and get push notifications.

Flick Soccer

If you’re looking for a casual game of football, Flick Soccer is ideal. It has deveral different kicking games that put you racing against the clock, hitting targets, and otherwise scoring goals. The game’s swipe recognition is excellent and the kicks feel very natural. Even after you’ve landed a kick, you can use a quick swipe to alter the trajectory.

Live Score Addicts

Another much-loved app for following futbol, Live Score Addicts has a somewhat more polished UI than you’ll find in FotMob and it gives you team notifications even if you haven’t purchased a premium upgrade. Live Score Addicts will let you follow multiple teams and leagues, vote on upcoming matches’ outcome, and check the current standings. There are also in-app purchases to give you new color schemes in the UI.

FIFA 14

It’s definitely more intense than Flick Soccer — FIFA 14 gives you the full playing experience. You can hand pick a team from 33 leagues including the MLS and play soccer in stadiums around the world.

FIFA 14 has smart touch-optimized controls to ditch the usual virtual control pad and instead lets you use swipes, taps, and drag-and-hold controls to play. In time you pick up coins which get you items and new players on your team. You can also buy the coins via in-app purchases in the event you’d like to skip ahead. There’s also a Football Club Match Day setting which means real-world news like injuries and suspensions are reflected in the game.
